Lincat
Lincat are the biggest UK manufacturer of catering equipment. They are based in Lincoln (Lincat is made by combining ‘Lincoln’ and ‘Catering’) and have a good reputation for making reliable and easy to use equipment. The company’s machines are good to use and spares are easy to come by.
In the UK they pretty much own the ‘mid-range’ space: good value, but not budget, equipment that does a great job. If you walk into a professional kitchen anywhere in the UK, chances are it will have a piece of Lincat equipment in it.
Contact Grills
Contact grills – often referred to as panini grills – are a great piece of versatile catering equipment, especially for smaller establishments. They use a clever arrangement of two heating elements: one below and one above, which can be brought together with the food sandwiched between, cooking from both sides at once. This is why they are called ‘contact’ grills – they cook through contact on both sides. This method can speed up cooking times too, making them perfect for fast moving businesses.
They can cook burgers, sausages, steaks and of course, paninis. If you are cooking steaks or panini’s make sure to get a ribbed plate to get the distinctive, and very attractive, branding marks on your food.
Lincat’s Contact Grills
Lincat make seven different contact grills, but there are two distinct types. Those starting GG are the brand’s hard wearing brand, built for demanding environments.
Those beginning with an L are the value brand, but still absolutely ready for use in a busy professional kitchen.
All are sold under the ‘Lynx 400’ brand.

L-range
Starting with the L range – these machines use a cast iron construction for the elements – which means you’ll need to ‘season’ them with oil before you use them
There are four machines in the range – the LCG which is a small machine with smooth top and bottom plates.
The LCG2 is a double width machine – with two top plates – with smooth top and bottom plates. The LRG is a single machine with a ribbed top plate and a smooth bottom plates.
The LRG2 is a double grill with a ribbed top and smooth bottom.
These machines are very simple – with a temperature gauge – and that’s all – to control them!
GG Range
The GG range are all single width machines – they use aluminium plates rather than cast iron, which means they heat up quicker and have a more even temperature than cast iron.
They are made to last, with hard wearing fittings and a timer to make sure the element is only on when you need it.
The GG1 has flat plates, the GG1P (the P stands for panini) has ribbed top and bottom plates and the GG1R has ribbed top plates and smooth bottom plates.
Why Lincat?
These are very easy to use machines – the GG range are harder wearing, but the double plate designs are very versatile and allow you to cook on one plate whilst serving for another, so the model you choose will be dictated by the needs of your business.
These are great machines that are a staple of cafes all over the country, and you can see why – well made and reasonably priced, there’s little to complain about!
Conclusion
These machines are well made and easy to use, they are versatile and are perfect for small cafes and restaurants, helping them to produce a wide range of foods. If you need a contact grill, then these Lincats are easy to recommend.
